Ready for WikiLeaks, the TV Show?:

International man of mystery and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is exploring a new venue for himself and his organization: a TV show.

Assange will host “a series of in-depth conversations with key political players, thinkers and revolutionaries from around the world. The theme: the world tomorrow,” according to WikiLeaks’s blog.

The series will begin in mid-March with 10 weekly half-hour episodes, according to the blog. The statement doesn’t outline what form of distribution the show will take, though it notes that “initial licensing commitments cover over 600 million viewers across cable, satellite and terrestrial broadcast networks.”

The bid for a TV series comes as Assange has been the subject of a grand jury investigation in the U.S. that has been going on for more than 500 days. Compared to a year or so ago though — when Assange was said to be considered as Time‘s “Person of the Year” (an honor that went to Mark Zuckerberg) — WikiLeaks and its founder have kept a relatively low profile, though Assange made headlines again this month when he accused The New York Times of “abandoning” him in a Rolling Stone profile.

Assange himself is in the process of appealing his looming extradition to Sweden from the U.K., where he currently resides.

This isn’t the first time that WikiLeaks has attempted to broaden its brand. Last February, the organization opened an online gift shop to raise funds. Items for sale included t-shirts, duffle bags, umbrellas, buttons with the WikiLeaks logo and Assange and the organization’s tagline, “Courage is contagious.”
